Therapy can help us move towards the realisation of our true potential which lies dormant in our crisis.
Menopause transition refers to the period of time leading up to and including menopause, which is defined as the permanent cessation of menstrual periods. Menopause typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, with the average age being 51. During the menopause transition, a woman's body undergoes a gradual decline in ovarian function, resulting in changes in hormone levels and menstrual cycles.
The menopause transition can be broken down into three stages:
Menopause transition
-
This stage typically begins several years before menopause and is characterized by fluctuating hormone levels and irregular menstrual cycles. During perimenopause, a woman may experience symptoms such as hot flashes, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and sleep disturbances.
-
Menopause is officially diagnosed when a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. At this point, oestrogen and progesterone levels have significantly decreased, and the ovaries no longer release eggs.
-
This stage begins after menopause and lasts for the rest of a woman's life. During postmenopause, symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness may persist, and women are at increased risk for certain health conditions, such as osteoporosis and heart disease.
It's important to note that every woman's experience with the menopause transition is unique, as we are all unique. We all bring our own history, belief systems, family patterns and cultural beliefs about what menopause is. This is often a time when we begin to question who we are and what our purpose is in life. Because of this, Symptoms can vary widely in severity and duration. This is largely what women find challenging and often where Counselling can help.
By embarking on a therapeutic journey, we will begin to uncover how you feel about this next part of your life and why. To understand how you feel about ‘older women’ and how this relates to your own self-belief. Coming to know more about who you are as a woman can be a powerful tool for you to have in your back pocket as you begin this next chapter.
Some women like to embark on six sessions and decide where to go from there and some women suit open-ended, selecting as we go along, when or if they want to close. All sessions are tailor-made to fit your needs.
This transitional time can be explored as online therapy or face-to-face therapy. We will spend time talking, feeling and exploring creatively and imaginatively, who we feel we may be, who we feel we really are. You will also have the option of joining one of our monthly women’s groups online, places are booked directly through Creatrix as these groups run according to numbers and availability. Group sessions can be a deeply healing and beneficial experience for many women to share and connect.
If you are struggling with symptoms during the menopause transition, please talk to your GP for advice on treatment options alongside therapy.
